1. Staying Relevant Through Bollywood in media

For the Indian diaspora, Bollywood is a part of the nostalgia phase. Bollywood dance is used to explore India's aspirations to check for what distinguishes Bollywood as Indian. The dance instructors of dance institutions such as NDM Bollywood Dance Studios (NDMBDS) can deliberately edit components that they consider appear inappropriate or authentic from the films' dance choreography (Mariasih, 2012). In doing so, they sometimes integrate movements from classical Indian dance, such as Kathak. 'Nimbooda Nimbooda' performed by Aishwarya Rai from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, featuring the modern Kathak. Devdas' 'Dola Re Dola' incorporates contemporary and classic Kathak (Hawa, 2017).

Mimesis is also essential to inheritance as it gives the closest disciples control and privilege as the keepers of the tradition. (Dalidowicz, 2015). Historically, India's arts have focused on adaptability and transition. A long history of changing patronage from the Mughal rulers to the British Raj to the rise of government arts organizations that followed Indian independence has undeniably meant that kathak's practise has evolved and changed with the pressures of the time. (Hawa, 2017).
